Carolyn Hammel, of Wiarton, peacefully at 10:35pm, on July 16 2025 at Chapman House – Owen Sound. Carolyn Amanda Marie Hammel (nee Steffler) at the age of 83 years. Loving wife and best friend to the late Garwood “Gar” Hammel for over 51 years. Devoted mother of Lorna Vander Ploeg, of Cochrane; Dawn and her husband Scott Concordia, of Wiarton; and Brett Hammel and his partner Kathryn Anderson, of Blackstock. Cherished grandmother of Natasha Ikebue and husband Fortune Ikebue, Marshall McCoy and partner Lana Zimonjic, Paige Concordia and partner Sam Rupert, Andrew Concordia and partner Ellahe Hussanie, Hailey and Hudson Hammel & Miles Mc Coy. Sister of Dale Steffler and partner Jan, of Penetanguishene, and Barry Steffler & partner Susan, of Wiarton. Sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her parents Alberta and Reginald Steffler; and a brother Murray Steffler. Friends may call at the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, 272 Berford St., Wiarton, (519) 534-5341 on Friday, July 25, 2025 for a Memorial Gathering from 1-3 p.m., with a Time of Sharing at 2 o’clock. Cremation has taken place. Interment in Oxenden Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Grey Bruce Hospice Inc. (Chapman House) would be appreciated. Special thanks to the Chapman House for their extended loving care of Carolyn with her stay, the Complex Care Team Brightshores Health System, Ontario Health at Home, Bruce Peninsula Hospice, VON, Paramed, and HCSS.     We were fortunate to have met Carolyn. What a big heart and amazing lady! We will forever remember her bikini cover up appearance at the horse shoe tournament. And her baked beans will forever be a cherished recipe in our household!

    Dear Lorna, Dawn and Family
    So Sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. Wasn’t long since I was talking to her.
    It was years ago when I first met your Dad, and worked for him in his Beauty Shoppe
    in Kitchener. Then when moving up here, he said he was going to come work for me.!
    They were great people!. You will miss your Mom very much! But I know you have a lot
    of great Memories from both of them. My Sincere Sympathy to you All.
