Wilfred Daniel Ashcroft passed away peacefully at home of natural causes in Limberlost on August 11th, 2026. Dan was born April 10th, 1958: a story that our father told was that he could remember Dan’s birthday because a sow had 13 piglets that same day.
Dearly loved brother of Susan (Sue) (late Terry Carleton) of Georgian Bluffs, Jeff Ashcroft (Kim Scholl) of Wingham, Tim Ashcroft of Owen Sound and Leona Ashcroft of London. Uncle to Corrine (Craig Hickling), Connie (Mike Cook), John Carleton (Claudia), Ryan Ashcroft (Tiffany Needham), Patrick Ashcroft (Roberta), Graham Ashcroft (Sydney te Raa), Ali Ashcroft (Mihir Nair), Chris Ashcroft (Emily McKague).
Proud Great Uncle to Cameron Cook, Dawson Hickling, Jenna (Mason Martin), Alexis Hickling, Bradley Holley, Tristan Carleton, Adrian Holley, Jory Ashcroft, Bianca Carleton, Ollie Holley, Evelyn Holley, Fiona Holley, with one more little one on the way.
Predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Eileen (nee Howe) Ashcroft; sister Kathleen (nee Kay) and her husband Jim Hartsgrove; nephew Matthew Hartsgrove; and brothers Robert and Edward. Grandparents Roy and Ruth (nee Lawrence) Ashcroft, Frank and Kathleen (nee Anderson) Howe.
Dan always enjoyed getting together with friends, family and neighbours to talk and laugh, and to share stories and if you mentioned it was potluck he brought baked beans to share with all who were there.
Dan enjoyed his working life and could talk at length about each of the places he had worked, from his first summer job working for Doug Ashcroft and the time he spent there, to his years at Stelco, Magna International, and Toyota. The trips to Japan for Toyota and the years he worked in the States were highlights for him, he took pride in his work, and he loved sharing the memories he had of the people he had worked with.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dan’s neighbours, Robert, Levi and Peter Rogers, Andy Cunningham, Paul Lynette, and Katie MacLeod. We can never say thank you enough for all each of you have done to help us through this difficult time.
Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at Purple Valley Community Hall on Saturday September 19th, from 1 to 4. We invite friends and family to come and share your stories with us and with each other. And since Dan loved a good potluck meal, we are doing one final potluck for him. So, bring your favourite meal or a dessert that you know Dan would have liked. And I (Susan) have his baked bean recipe so I am doing the baked beans, everybody else can find something else to bring.
Arrangements entrusted to the Thomas C. Whitcroft Funeral Home & Chapel, Sauble Beach (519) 422-0041. Condolences may be expressed online at www.whitcroftfuneralhome.com

August 17, 2026 at 12:19 pmMy condolences to the Ashcroft family.. We used to have some great conversations with Dan when he would come down to get a Holstein bull calf to put on a cow that had lost her calf. He was always so pleasant.
