Douglas Arthur Rouse November 27, 2024

Douglas Arthur Rouse, of Wiarton.
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Douglas Arthur Rouse, born on September 29, 1933 and passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Southampton Hospital on November 25, 2024. Doug was one of the most trustworthy, honest individuals of his time. He was the Patriarch of our family and his extended family. He was a much loved and respected uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews and a much-adored Poppa to his 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Doug was the brother to 8 siblings and eldest son to his parents, Arthur and Flora Rouse. He was raised in the town of Wiarton in the pre-war era. He met the love of his life, Carol Ann Taylor in 1956 and they were married in Wiarton on March 4, 1957. They were companions and best friends for over 67 years. Doug and Carol raised 5 children, Marianne DeOliveira (Alfredo), Paul Rouse (Helen), Carrie Elliott (Peter), Marty Rouse (Corrina); and was predeceased by youngest daughter Donna Davis (September 2020). Doug and Carol headed to the big city to raise their young family as he pursued a career as a stationary engineer at Canada Packers for over 30 years. In his retirement, his heart never veered far from the Bruce Peninsula thus purchasing a farm in 1978 in the Wiarton area and becoming a part time then full-time beef farmer for many years. His entrepreneurial spirit was always present, and, in his retirement, he started a small business selling his “Doug’s Natural Beef” from his store “Doug’s Place” on Highway 6. His focus on selling beef free of additives and hormones was a thriving business and dad was certainly ahead of his time. Funeral arrangements and cremation entrusted through the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, Wiarton 519-534-5341. A private family gathering was held. The family asks that any donations be made to Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation – Wiarton. Condolences may be expressed online at www.whitcroftfuneralhome.com
