Gertrude Valad, of Wiarton, peacefully at Gateway Haven Long Term Care on Tuesday October 14, 2025. Gertrude Mary Valad (nee Lehman) at the age of 82 years. Dear mother of Kim Caskanette (Brad), Vivian Wyonch (Ernie), Heather Long (Ivan), Charlene Dowd (Todd), and Darren Valad (Sophia), Cherished grandmother of 14, and great-grandmother of 23. Sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Gertrude; husband, Edgar “Ed” Valad (2011); son, Kevin Valad; grandson, Justin; brothers, Harry, George, Alan, and Bill; and sisters, Margaret, Rose, Christine, Madelaine, Betty, Eleanor, and Ruth. Family wish to express their thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of Gateway Haven for the care given to Gertrude. Private family arrangements entrusted to the Thomas C. Whitcroft Funeral Home & Chapel, Sauble Beach (519) 422-0041. Cremation has taken place. Interment in Dunks Bay Cemetery, Tobermory at a later date. Donations to Friends of Gateway, or to the Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation (Wiarton or Lion’s Head) would be appreciated. Condolences may be expressed online at www.whitcroftfuneralhome.com

    My deepest condolences to all of you. I know the sadness it brings with the loss of a parent. I will always remember how kind your Mom was to me as child when we all got together. It’s been awhile since I have seen your Mom, however she was in my prayers. May all the memories of your Mom bring you comfort and warm your hearts.

    I’m so sorry to hear of Gertie’s passing. She was an amazing lady and a treasured friend to Mom and our family. We have so many great memories with her. I hope you find peace in your memories .
