Nancy Stein, of Sauble Beach, peacefully at Chapman House Residential Hospice, Owen Sound, on Wednesday March 22, 2023. Nancy Charlotte Stein (nee Graham) at the age of 82 years. Loving wife and best friend of George for almost 60 years. Proud mother of Kevin and his wife Cathy, of Cambridge, and David and his wife Donna, of Ottawa. Cherished grandmother of Nick Stein (Deanna), Spencer Stein, Harley Stein (Danika), and Shelby Stein. Dear sister of Douglas Graham and his wife, Saundra, of Goderich; and sister-in-law of Dorothy Stein (late Albert), of Barrie. Sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by her mother, Florence (nee Chapman). We recall so many fond memories of Mom. She raised two wonderful and loving sons and was the best grandma to our kids they could ever have. Volunteering- she never wavered from contributing to any cause or giving her time to a charity if it meant she could help. She was a beautiful caring soul who always put everyone else first. She would bake Skor bar, cookies, and butter tarts for the people she knew well. She baked the best pecan pie we have ever tasted, and it was made by our Mom. We looked forward to every birthday for that pecan pie! The grandkids have lots of stories about Grandma as well. She was always baking. No matter what we did as kids outside or inside we could look into the kitchen and Grandma would be there creating something delicious for dessert. Grandma always made us feel welcome. She always had certain sheets and blankets for each of us for our beds, she wanted to know if what she was planned to cook during our stay was our favourites and she always had some activity for us planned. The tote of sand toys was always out and ready in the sand for us to play. She had a special love for dogs and cats but really loved all animals. She always fed the birds out back, winter or summer, and word must have spread, because soon the wild turkeys and deer showed up. I guess they learned how kind her heart was too. In fact, Sammy, the cat came to see her in the kitchen the day after she passed, and Grandpa went out to give him his treat. The last time I saw Grandma I cooked for her for the first time. She sat at her place at the kitchen table and gave instructions to me just like I was 12 years old. She knew everything about cooking and had me cook dinner the way she knew Grandpa would like.
We would like to the thank the following people who gave comfort and compassion to Nancy in her last weeks of life. The nurses and doctors at the Wiarton hospital for their care and support through her brief illness. To the VONs, the occupational health nurses and the paramedics of Southampton for dropping in to see how she was doing and attend to her. To Chapman house, while she was only in your care less than 24 hours, we appreciate the kindness you showed her.
To the staff at Fretz’s Value Mart in Sauble Beach for taking her grocery order over the phone and picking her order. I know those cookies she brought and left for staff were baked with love.
