Norma Ann Robson (Jones) (Kegdonce)

Norma, affectionately known as Normie Ann to many, was born on January 21, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, to Norman Peter Joshua Jones and Una Evelyn Page. Norma was one of seven children, including her twin brother Norman, whom she fondly referred to as her “wombmate,” as well as Joan Lois, Shirley, Robert, William, all of whom have passed away. She is survived by her sister Jean Arlene Borrows (Joe) and her brother Howard Jones (Grace), both residing in Neyaashiinigming.
Norma is deeply cherished and remembered by her four children: Dena Carroll (Allan), William Robson (Tina), Susann Colquhoun (Kent), and James Michael Robson. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Scott, Alana, Sara, Suzy, Billy, Josh, and Adam, as well as nine great-grandchildren.
Norma spent her early years in California before moving with her family back to Cape Croker. She attended Indian Day School and 2 years at Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School. In 1955, Norma married William Edgar Robson and settled nearby the reserve at Coveney’s Corner. Together with her husband, Norma lived in numerous towns in southern Ontario. They were married for 35 years. Many years after his passing, Norma met a special partner named John McGill. The two of them shared many fond memories including a special VIP package to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler, BC.
A true ‘Jill of All Trades,’ Norma pursued various certifications through Conestoga College, including Swedish Massage, Touch Therapy, Stress Debriefing, and Reflexology, which she completed in 1988. She dedicated many years to providing these services to clients and health professionals.
After Bill C-31, in 1985 Norma returned to Cape and became actively involved in the community. Her home on Lakeshore Drive was a welcoming space for family and friends. Norma passionately engaged in numerous community issues, including environmental protection, land claims, water protection, archaeology, alternative health, senior issues and social justice. She was actively involved with the United Church throughout Ontario for many years.
Norma was instrumental in aiding with establishing the first hospice in Grey Bruce and was honored as an Ambassador for her dedicated service. In 2008, she was named Citizen of the Year by the Wiarton and District Lions Club. In 2024, she traveled to Winnipeg to receive the Sandy Saulteaux Spiritual Centre ‘Respected Elder’s Award,’ accepting it on behalf of everyone in the community who had positively impacted her life.
Norma’s legacy is one of love, service, and supporting the community. Her family and others always will remember how she lifted them up with her calm demeanour and words of wisdom. Her deep love for her community, strong faith, and compassion for others were evident in all she did. She was skilled at cooking, crafting, and writing poetry. Norma was a respected elder, she a strong advocate for the preservation of language and local and family history. She supported people of all walks of life.
The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the health professionals who provided exceptional care: Dr. Kelly Fenn, Dr. Jeff Barrett Dr. Aboo and Nurse Tammy of Care Partners. As well, our deep gratitude to the amazing staff at Neyaashiinigming for their dedicated home & community care and the Maadooki Centre. Thank you as well to Ontario Health at Home for their coordination of services.
