Patricia Sam September 15, 2023

Aug. 7, 1921 to Sept. 15, 2023

Patricia Sam passed away and drifted peacefully into the evening sky through the Gates on Sept. 15, 2023.  Partner for life of William D. Sam (1992).  Dear mother of Sandra (Bruce Mangan), Marie (Donald Moore), Kenneth and Kathryn (Mario Guindon).  Special grandmother to Jessica (Alex Ceponkus), Leslie, Christopher, Adam, Alysha (Scott White) and Addasonne (Kenneth McCormack) and special great grandmother to Avery of Solina, Ontario.  She was born to Duck Chiang and Fong Shee Po on Aug. 7, 1921 in Chilliwack, B.C. and came from a family of nine children.  Cherished big sister to Ian, Donald (Betty) and James (late Betty).  Predeceased by brothers Charles, Ralem (late Mae), Peter (late Anita), Harold and sister Joyce (late Harold Leon); as well as sister-in-law Margaret Rose McKillop (nee Sam).  She leaves behind a flourishing network of nieces and nephews.  In her lifetime the family tree grew about eight-fold.

Her prime working years were spent in Wiarton working at the New London Café.  However, her heart was always outdoors.  She grew up on a family farm in Chilliwack and quickly learned how to cook and manage the garden.  By fourteen years of age she was driving and trucking potatoes to Vancouver with her father.  Upon retirement she soon collected a book of exciting memorable hunting and fishing stories.  She rode her ATV until she was eighty plus years of age.  Moreover, she loved to curl.  She loved to travel with the girls on the road and collectively they stalked every curling rink in the area for years.  You would have to search a long way back in time to find a team from Grey/Bruce who had as much spirit or more fun than these four seniors.  Thank You Evie. Thank You Emily. Thank You Florence.  Thank You Wiarton Curling Club.  Thank You Scotland.  Her memories for all will be everlasting.

A private family service will be held at the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, Wiarton, Ontario (519) 534-5341, followed by interment at Edgehill Cemetery to be with her beloved Willie in the Village of Colpoy’s.  In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy or memorial donations to the Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation or Parkinson Canada may be made through the funeral home.

Kathy, Mio, Ken, Marie, Don, Sandra, Bruce and families: My sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. I remember the warm greetings Pat always had when I ‘hung out’ at The New London Cafe and how thrilled I was to be assigned to Pat’s curling team one time during league play. Of course, our parents, Joyce and Don, enjoyed many years curling with and against Pat and Willie and spoke very highly of their sportsmanship and friendship. Cherish your memories.

We have a lot of great memories of Pat, starting in High school when she was at the New London Cafe, and throughout about 40 years of many good curling games, most of which, she won. Will miss her, as will your family. Best wishes. Dennis & Bonnie McCutcheon
