Peter “Pedo” Ralph Akiwenzie, of Neyaashiinigmiing, peacefully at Brightshores Health System – Wiarton on Sunday October 26, 2025 at the age of 83 years. Loving friend and companion to the late Jacqueline Mae Ashkewe (2021) for over 53 years. Dear father of Angela Ashkewe, of Neyaashiinigmiing, Stacey Ashkewe, of Toronto, and Sterling Ashkewe, of Neyaashiinigmiing. Cherished grandfather of Lance Ashkewe (partner Adrienne), Tamara Dominic-Ashkewe, Cherish Ashkewe (partner Talon), Summer Ashkewe (partner Kenneth), Keegan Ashkewe, and Mike Ashkewe (wife Blaire); great-grandfather of Baila Ashkewe, Lacey Ashkewe, Landon Ashkewe, Jaedon Ashkewe, and Jeriko Ashkewe; and great-great-grandfather of Myla (partner Kenneth). Brother of Evelyn Brennan, and Byron Lavalley. Sadly missed by Jacqueline’s family, Colin Chegahno (Connie), Tony Chegahno (Debbie), Arlene Chegahno, Fudd Chegahno, Guy Chegahno (Pat), Kim Chegahno, and Jill Winegarden; sister-in-law, Elsie Chegahno; and his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Gertrude; daughters, Melanie Ashkewe, and Kimberly Flett; brothers, Victor Lavalley, Hector Lavalley, Franklin Lavalley, Lawrence Lavalley, Earl Akiwenzie, and Edwin “Bun” Akiwenzie (Isabel); sisters, Matilda Powell, and Isabel Millette; and Jacqueline’s siblings, Raymond Ashkewe, Dean Chegahno, Theron “Huss” Chegahno (Kim), Keith Chegahno, Barb Whiteye, Nelson Ashkewe, and Randy Chegahno. Friends may call at the Cape Croker Community Centre, Neyaashiinigmiing on Thursday October 30, 2025 from 3-5 and 6-8 PM. Mass will be celebrated from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neyaashiinigmiing on Friday morning at 11 o’clock. Cremation to follow. Arrangements entrusted to the Thomas C. He was so proud to watch you all playing hockey. I knew Peter away back eons ago when as a kid worked at the Mile Inn restaurant, and he was always so kind when he would come into the store. Then so nice in later years with hockey connection again.
