Pew, Peter – of Oliphant passed away peacefully at Lee Manor on Friday December 6, 2024 with his family by his side at the age of 98 years. Loving husband of Bernice (Hyatt) married 78 years. Predeceased by daughter Marjorie; sons Murray and Gord; and daughter-in-law Margot. Survived by son Jim of Allenford (late Margot) and daughter Karen Sturt-Smith of Allenford (Glen); and daughters-in-law Janet Diagle (Murray) and Monika Pew (late Gord). Grandfather to Carrie Anne (Karl), Reg (Sarah), Janice (Mark), Greg (Jessica), Matthew, and Sandi (Roger). Great-grandfather to Jake, Ally, James, Spencer, Violet, Owen, and Molly. Great-great-grandfather to Aĺlie and Aspyn. Also survived by sisters-in-law Joyce Porter and Betty Pew.
The quick-witted, storytelling, self-proclaimed ‘Mayor’ of Oliphant was well known at Lloyd’s pool hall and the Legion. Before he passed he had to tell, just one last time, his nurses he held a 84 point record shooting snooker. He loved living in Oliphant; would whistle like the whippoorwills; wander through the bushes; or could be found just sitting outside of the monument shop feeling the breeze.
He was Bernice’s husband of 78 years. He said the secret to a good marriage is marrying a good cook, dancing together, and playing cards.
Celebration of Life to be held in the spring at Oliphant. Many a great card party were held at Peter’s house and BBQs out back at Spry Lake.
He also left behind many nephews and nieces that were just as close. Peter will be lovingly remembered by the Welsh ‘clan’, Pew ‘crews’, and the Patterson ‘peeps’,
We’ll all miss his stories, his little grin when he was trying to be funny and his ingenuity when fixing things.
Arrangements entrusted to the Thomas C. Whitcroft Funeral Home & Chapel, Sauble Beach (519) 422-0041. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

December 21, 2024 at 8:28 pmBernice and Family:
I just heard about Peter’s passing. I want to extend my sympathy and condolences to each of you.
I have fond memories of Peter playing cards at Oliphant. Also attending Church at South Sauble in the summer. He loved the old hymns and had a wonderful Faith and trust in our Lord.
He was an amazing person. He was always up for a good conversation or tell a story.
He will be missed.
God bless you as you mourn, grieve and celebrate his life and love.
The words of that old hymn say it best:
In the sweet by and by
We shall meet on that beautiful shore
