It is with profound sadness that Gary’s family announce his passing, peacefully with his beloved wife Chris Robinson (nee Posnett) by his side at Chapman House Residential Hospice, Owen Sound, on Thursday June 12, 2025, in his 82nd year. Proud step-father of Brent Robinson (Camila). Dear brother of Jim Jones (Janice) and brother-in-law of Jacqueline Southwell and Sue Matthews. Predeceased by his parents, Orville and Nellie. Born in Dunville, Ontario, Gary pursued an early career in social work and earned a B.A in sociology from McMaster University and a Masters degree in sociology from York University. After graduation Gary worked as a social worker for the Children’s Aid Society and as a childcare worker at Chedoke Hospital in Hamilton. Later in life Gary pursued a career in Ministry and earned a Master of Divinity from Emmanuel College, Toronto. As part of his education Gary completed an internship as a chaplain serving seafarers for the Seaman’s Church Institute, Port Newark, New Jersey and at St. Andrews United Church, North Bay, Ontario. Following ordination by the United Church of Canada, Gary was pastor for a two-point rural charge for Sebringville – Rostock and then as pastor for a three-point rural charge for Sharbot Lake, Parham and Maberly, Ontario. In 2018 Gary accepted a position as pastor for the United Church in St. Anthony, Newfoundland for six months. Gary spent his retirement years researching and writing about theology. A gathering of friends and family will take place at the family home to remember Gary. Gary’s family wishes to thank Dr. David Diodati, Ontario Health at Home, the VON, Bruce Peninsula Hospice and the staff and volunteers of Chapman House for the wonderful care given to Gary during his illness.
