Shirley Petroff February 1, 2026

Shirley Petroff (nee Moore). Born August 22, 1933 in Wiarton, Ontario. Passed Lion’s Head Hospital February 1, 2026 at 92 years old. Daughter, wife, mother, Nana, great-Nana, artist and pilot. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 68 years, Alex Petroff (2021), and cherished son, Steven Petroff (2023). Big sister to Bob Rouse. Predeceased by mother, Win Rouse & father, Frank Moore; her brothers Frank and Alfred; and sister Betty. Mother to Steven, Thomas, Richard, & Marianne. Proud Nana to Nicole, Jordan, Denin, Chase, and Ella. Great-Nana to Carter and Natalie, and another great-grandchild arriving later this year. Shirley will be remembered for hosting & cooking great meals for friends and extended family in Toronto and especially Lion’s Head. She became a licensed private pilot at age 40, joining Alex in the pilot’s seat. Shirley & Alex raised us in Toronto but retired happily back to the Lion’s Head in 1981, where they enjoyed volunteering in the community. Cessna at the ready, they had a long, adventurous retirement, introducing many people to the joy of flying. We would like to thank the Lion’s Head Hospital, doctors, & home care aids for their kindness & compassion. Expressions of remembrance to the BP Hospitals Foundation (Lion’s Head) are welcome. A memorial will be held in Lion’s Head summer 2026. Arrangements made at the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, Wiarton (519) 534-5341. Condolences may be expressed online at www.whitcroftfuneralhome.com

    To the Petroff family:
So many great memories of your Mom. Such a kind, fun and spirited lady!
I remember all of us crammed into her Mini Cooper headed to Sandy Beach for a day of fun.
A picnic basket full of fresh bread, peanut butter and fresher was held tight on one of our laps.
Your Mom was a breath of fresh air!
I am sorry for your loss but I know she will be flying in the clouds somewhere!

My thoughts are with the family of Shirley Petroff. I knew Shirley through the Eastnor Horticulture Society. Shirley was one of the leaders who came to the school, and all my children joined the Jr. Club. Then Shirley & I continued to exchange plants and even mushrooms after that. Also related. Shirley was an amazing lady. She shared lots of wonderful stories that only she could deliver with a smile and a kind heart. We had so many great visits over our years of volunteering together in Lioness. She was an amazing cook and generously loaned her slicer when needed. It was the heaviest slicer to carry back down to her house when we were finished a function. She would joke that it was a good workout. When she talked about any of you, it was easy to see Shirley loved all of you so much. Our condolences at this difficult time. Cathy and Kyle McLay
