Thomas “Tom” MacKenzie, born in Inverness, Scotland, and a resident of Wiarton, passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the age of 90, surrounded by his family.
Tom shared an extraordinary love and partnership with his beloved wife and best friend Sherrie (nee Speirs) for almost 69 years. They were inseparable doing everything together, side by side, and creating a lifetime of memories that will forever be cherished. He was a cherished father to Shelley Mackay and father-in-law to Colin Mackay, and a much-loved grandfather to Arianna Mackay and fur-granddaughter Tessa.
His face would light up whenever he spoke about his granddaughter. He was immensely proud of Arianna as she chased her dreams of becoming a pilot, and he was always wondering how she was making out and eager to hear about her journey. His love and pride for her were unmistakable.
Tom will be lovingly remembered by his family, sisters-in-law Ruth Speirs of Chatsworth, Gloria MacKenzie of Holland Centre, Lannie Meagher of Durham, and Eva MacKenzie of Shallow Lake.
Predeceased by his parents, William MacKenzie, Margaret Margaret (nee Clark) MacKenzie, later Speirs, sister, Lillian MacKenzie of Scotland, brothers, Donald MacKenzie of Scotland, Bill MacKenzie of Owen Sound, Alec MacKenzie of Shallow Lake, and John MacKenzie of Holland Centre, brother-in-law of Allan Speirs (the late Fran Speirs) of Chatsworth, and sisters-in-law, Mary MacKenzie of Owen Sound, and Donna Trelford of Tara. Beloved family dog Mindy.
He leaves behind a lifetime of memories shared with the people he loved most. His kindness, diligence, and love for his family, and the many moments shared together, will be remembered and treasured.
Cremation has taken place, and a drop-in memorial service will be held at the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel in Wiarton on Friday, September 11th, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A private interment will follow at Eastnor Cemetery.
In Tom’s memory, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Canadian Cancer Society, or Alzheimer Society of Canada. Donations are gratefully appreciated by the family.
Tom will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
