A letter from Tom Dear family member; When death occurs, sometimes without forewarning, it leaves
family members a short space of time to make some emotional decisions.
They are faced not only with grieving the loved one, but also with
decisions as to what their loved one might have wanted and many financial and
legal considerations. No
one wants to think of his or her own death, but the reality is that each of us
will, at some future time, face this truth.
And, as difficult as it is, discussion of one’s wishes in this regard
can eliminate much of the anguish following the passing of someone who had left
no instruction with family. Many people are taking the time to pre-plan now in a
relaxed and thoughtful manner, often enlisting the help of family members in
preplanning discussions. A
pre-arranged funeral allows you to make your own personal choices for yourself. Many people think that the visitation and funeral service
of a loved one must be held at the funeral home or at the church, because
that is the way it has always been done.
What about a family member’s request to have everyone gather at the
cottage, retirement home, or at the family farm? Your wishes are important and will ultimately reflect the
life you lived. Whether you live right next-door or several hours away, we
can fulfill your wishes. We will
have some ideas too. Funerals, whether simple or traditional, are intended to comfort and reassure the family and friends of those we have lost. As a funeral director, I am here to assist and guide you through the process. Many decisions must be made within a very short span of time. I am here to help you develop your requests and notions, and sometimes suggest inspiring ideas from my own previous experiences. Arranging for funeral services can be made in the comfort
of your own home or at the funeral home at a time convenient to you. Sincerely, Tom
Whitcroft
