Smart, Bill – of Wiarton, passed away at Brightshores Health System Owen Sound on Monday, April 29, 2024. William “Bill” Archer Smart at the age of 84 years. Devoted husband of Dianne (nee Given) for 57 years. Loving father of Carolina Smart (Zoltan Hawryluk), and William Smart (Shannon), both of Toronto, Corrina Smart (partner Marty Rouse), of Wiarton, and Thomas Smart (Becky), of Owen Sound. Cherished ‘Gramps’ of Parker Smart, Kyle Gibbons, Nigel Gibbons, Gabriell Keeshig (partner Shawn), Alexandra “Allie” Smart, Andrew Smart, Jessica Rouse (partner Kurt Sylvest), Hunter Rouse, and great-grandfather of Lennon Sylvest. Dear brother of Donald (Annette), of Kingston, Jeannette Mallard (late Jack), of Wiarton, Margaret (Skip Williams), of Francis Lake, Norman “Skip” (Freda), of Port Elgin, and Andy (Linda), of Clinton; and brother-in-law of Doug Given (Laurie), and Linda Hepburn (partner Mike Ainslie), both of Mar, Carol McCauley (partner Kevin Medhurst), of Wiarton, Sandy Smart, and Helen Smart, both of Owen Sound, and Marilew, of Kitchener. Sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Duncan and Betty; brothers, Thomas, Sam (Patricia), Duncan, George, and Danny; sisters, Betty (Sam Moore), Donelda (Howard Richardson), and Joyce (Frank Jones); and brother-in-law, Dave McCauley. Family wish to express their gratitude to doctors and nursing staff of the Wiarton and Owen Sound hospitals for the wonderful care given to Bill.     Corrina, boys and family we are so sorry for your loss. My grama and grandpa wanted me to let you know that they knew your dad from the legion, both of them send their sincere condolences. They knew him for many years. They used to buy tomatoes from him, that he brought back from the point where he worked, way back 30 years ago.

    Sorry to hear about your loss Dianne and family . First worked with Bill back in the 70’s at the Heavy Water Plant and every day we had a good laugh about something . I remember the one time he bought a used car from a dealer in Wiarton and he said it wouldn’t keep running. . So he took it back and got another one. and when he got home from work he shut it off and it keep running… I told him so, you told the dealer you wanted something that would keep running. lol

    Thinking about you all in this difficult time. I have known Bill my entire life through my parents, but really got to appreciate him better in more recent years through laughs and chats at the Wiarton dog park. Take care.
