Passed away at Gateway Haven, Wiarton Friday September 15, 2023, with her husband of 70 years Wilfred Ashcroft at her side. Born February 18, 1936, the former Eileen Howe. Mother of Susan “Sue” Carleton of Georgian Bluffs, Daniel Ashcroft of Limberlost, Jeffrey Ashcroft (Kim Scholl) of Wingham, Timothy Ashcroft (April) of Limberlost, Leona Ashcroft of London. Grandmother of Corrine Hickling (Craig), Connie Cook (Mike), John Carleton (Claudia), Ryan Ashcroft (Tiffany), Patrick Ashcroft (Roberta), Graham Ashcroft, Ali Ashcroft, Chris Ashcroft (Emily). Great Grandmother of Cameron and Jenna Cook, Dawson and Alexis Hickling, Tristan and Bianca Carleton, Jory Ashcroft, Bradley, Brigitte, Abigail, Evelyn and Fiona Holley. Also survived by her brothers Archie (Leona) Howe, James “Jim” Howe and David “Morgan” Howe and sisters-in-law Bernadette and Carol Howe, and Wilf’s family Shirley Leeder, Freda (Bud) Greaves, John (Margaret) Ashcroft, George Ashcroft, Mary Stephens, Bonnie Ashcroft. Predeceased by daughter Kathleen “Kay” Hartsgrove, sons Robert and Edward Ashcroft, sons-in-law Jim Hartsgrove and Terry Carleton, grandson Matthew Hartsgrove. Also predeceased by parents Frank and Kathleen (Anderson) Howe, brothers Stanley (Dorothy) and Ronald Howe, in laws Fay Ashcroft, Lawrence “Ladd” (Edythe) Ashcroft and Donald Ashcroft, AJV “Red” Leeder, Barbara Howe & Doreen Howe. Family invite friends to gather at the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, 272 Berford St., Wiarton (519) 534-5341 on Friday September 22, 2023 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, where a service to celebrate Eileen’s life will be conducted on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock.     It was a pleasure caring for Eileen at Gateway Haven. She was a great friend to my grandma Marilyn Stewart always thinking of her and giving her a call, she was such a caring soul. When my Grandpa Don passed away she made sure to tell me some great stories she had of him. She will be missed! Thinking of her entire family during this difficult time.

    So many milestone memories. Wilf and Eileen’s 25th wedding anniversary at what was the Embassy Tavern in Wiarton and just this summer sharing a piece of their 70th anniversary cake. Eileen was a wonderful sister in law. Love Bonnie

I always thought she was a beautiful lady and I recall enjoying her hosting the Limberlost gathers for winter fun a few times.
