It is with tremendously heavy hearts that the family announces Helen’s passing on the 8th of May 2026 at Brightshores Health System Owen Sound. Helen Irene Smart (nee Dunlop) in her 93rd year. Beloved wife to the late Duncan “Dunc” Fordyce Smart (2019) for 67 years. Also survived by three children: Bruce (Cherine), Beth Anne (late Jim Johnston) and Krista (Shane Maddock). Missing her will be her six grandchildren: Terry Smart (Carrie-Ann), Craig Smart (Amanda), Sarah (James Ward), Melanie Johnston (partner Darren Wisdom), Quinton Maddock (Rayburn) and Spencer Maddock ; and loving and proud great-grandma to eight great grandchildren: Cole, Taylor, Bailey, Brooklyn, Sophia, Ava Drew, Vivienne, and Ronan. Survived by sister-in-law Myrna Dunlop; and brother-in-law Eric Barnes (Gladys). Helen will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Irene and Mel Dunlop; brothers, David Dunlop, Barry Dunlop and sisters Bonnie Barnes, Marion Matthews and Shirley Kernohan.     So very sorry to hear of Helen’s passing. Bruce and Bethanne were good friends when we were so young and lived on Gould Street. Helen and Dunc were so very nice. And Bruce married Cherine who was our good friend Billy’s cousin. Sincere condolences to the family and friends.
