I am reaching out to share some thoughts about a truly remarkable man, John Brookshaw, who was a significant part of our team at L. H. Gray and Son Limited for many years. John was more than just a colleague to me; he was a beacon of dedication and loyalty, always going above and beyond in his work. His work ethic was impeccable, and his unwavering loyalty to the company was something I greatly admired.

John was a trusted confidant to Bill Gray, and I had the privilege of watching and learning from him. He had a way of imparting knowledge and wisdom that left a lasting impact on those around him. But more than his professional capabilities, it was his ethics and the genuine friendship he offered that I respected the most. John was a man of integrity, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Brookshaw family during this difficult time. Family was everything to John, and I know how much he cherished his loved ones. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My grandpa was a remarkable man who left an indelible mark on my life. He taught me how to use tools and fix things, how to fish, and how to work hard while appreciating the little things. He was a tough man, he had a loving heart, and with him, you always knew exactly where you stood.

Some of my best memories are the summers I spent at the farm and the cottage. While there are parts of working on the farm I’d rather forget, those times were filled with lessons and moments I’ll treasure forever. One story that always makes me smile is the time we went ice fishing and forgot the ice scoop. Grandma recently provided more details. Grandpa went off to get the scoop, and when he came back, he found me scooping ice out with my bare hands. I looked up at him and said, “A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.” They were my words, but really, he taught me and what it means to be a man.

He wasn’t just my grandpa; he was a teacher, a role model, and a source of strength. His lessons and his love will stay with me always, and I’m proud to be a Brookshaw.

Love you Grandpa, we will go fishing again one day.

Due to circumstances beyond our control we were not able to attend the service for John but have kept you in our thoughts. Each of us have many memories of the Brookshaws and what kindness was shown to us over the years. He lived his life to the fullest and displayed what a hard work ethic is all about. I will forever remember his big smile and generous nature. His family meant the world to him. Even though the farm has changed by appearance ……it will always be the Brookshaw farm to me. A life well lived.
