Kathryn “Kathy” Butchart – of Wiarton, surrounded by her family at Gateway Haven, Wiarton on Tuesday April 22, 2025. The former Mary Helen Kathryn Reckin at the age of 77 years. Loving wife and best friend of the late Lyle Emerson Butchart (March 2025) for 46 years. Dear mother of Shari Butchart and her partner Gerry Hanson, of Windsor, Carlyle Butchart and his wife Catherine, of Caledon, and Sheilah Butchart and her wife Lauren, of Hanover. Cherished grandmother of Shaye, Keara, Jacob, Ethan, Adam, and Brody. Predeceased by her parents, Carl and Mary; and a brother-in-law, Duke Butchart.
Over the years, Kathy’s heart was fullest when she was with her family. She especially cherished the trips to Mexico shared with her American cousins—times filled with laughter, sunshine, and memories that will live on for years to come. Kathy also enjoyed travelling with the WDHS school band for several years and chaperoned trips to Florida, Pennsylvania, and New York.
When she wasn’t travelling, Kathy enjoyed going to various craft fairs as well as going for monthly lunches with the Wiarton High School Gals throughout the year. Football season was something Kathy looked forward to each year, cheering on the Michigan Wolverines whenever they played. Kathy also loved music, and one of her fondest trips was going to see Dolly Parton in concert.
Though her absence leaves a deep ache in our hearts, we find comfort in the countless memories she gave us—moments of love, wisdom, and joy that will live on. Kathy may no longer walk beside us, but her spirit will forever be part of who we are. She will be missed more than words can say and loved always.
Kathy’s family wish to thank Dr. Hanley, the staff of Gateway Haven, and the doctors and nursing staff of the Wiarton hospital for the wonderful care they provided. A private Celebration of Life will occur at the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, 272 Berford St., Wiarton. Interment at a later date.
Donations to the Alzheimer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Friends of Gateway, or to your local school Breakfast Club would be appreciated. Condolences may be expressed online at www.whitcroftfuneralhome.com

April 24, 2025 at 9:39 pmMy sincerest sympathies to all of the Butchart family. Kathy was one of the most sincere, helpful and loving person that I have ever met. She always stopped to talk, gave a helping hand and a warm welcome into her home. You never knew what was going to come next. I was proud to have known her. Sincerely Donna Ward & family

April 25, 2025 at 12:57 pmShari, Carlyle, Sheilah & Families: Sorry to hear of Mom’s passing, and so soon after Dad. Although a difficult and sad time, it was a Blessing for you folks that her all-important family was with her, just as she would have loved. Kathy was a wonderful friend and backyard neighbour for many years. We shared a long history of our “kid stories”, as we watched and were involved in our kids growing up. Many of our visits that were meant to be “SHORT”, always turned into “LONG”, and we chuckled about that a lot. Our visits, indoors or outdoors, were very diverse in nature. We each called upon “memories of old”, but Kathy was the “Queen” of so much local history and so many people, She must be smiling from above to know how Blessed and Loved she was, and that it is Her now, that has created the history that future family will love to reminisce and pass on.
I cherished our many visits and talks with both Kathy and Lyle. We pray that the Lord Blesses all of you with comfort and peace in your bereavement. Laugh, cry, reminisce and talk of Mom Kathy, sharing your hugs and your memories, and may you find strength in that. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Fondly, Vicki & Jim Doubt/Kevin, Jeff, Jaime & Families.
